Youth Mentoring/Enrichment Camp

Let's Make It Happen Together, Inc. (LMIHT) will kick off the 8th annual Youth Mentoring / Enrichment Camp from June 14-16, 2024.  The design and intent of the camp is to provide 50 young men and women of Cumberland County and surrounding areas an opportunity to enhance their social skills, increase their exposure to the natural environment, learn about proper nutrition and wellness, and discover life skills through the mentorship of outstanding leaders in the community.  The mentoring/enrichment camp will have an open registration for our youth ranging from 10 to 18 years of age.  LMIHT feels this is a critical age to obtain the attention of males and females to guide them toward being productive individuals and citizens.  It is important to provide them with role models and mentors on how they can navigate through daily life.  Our camp will provide a platform for the participants to ask questions and share their thoughts.

The camp will be held at Camp Rockfish located in Parkton, NC. Camp Rockfish is equipped to provide housing, organized activities, and trained counselors for the participants. The campers will stay in cabins for two nights. During each day, there will be planned activities that will teach the campers life and survivor skills, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and social interactions centered on outdoor and physical activity.  The campers will be divided into small groups as appropriate to maximize learning and sharing. The trained counselors at Rockfish Camp will lead many of the discussions and also train volunteers before the camp is held. LMIHT will provide volunteers and motivational/keynote speakers daily. The motivational/keynote speakers will provide their personal experiences including challenges and successes. The objective is to encourage the youth to think, act and do.

The mission of Let's Make It Happen Together, Inc. is to provide positive alternatives for at-risk/high-risk youth and families in our communities that will assist in preventing poverty, hunger, crime, and lack of social skills, and to increase the possibilities of high school graduation, college enrollment, gainful employment and productive social life.  The mentoring/enrichment camp is designed to provide an impactful two-and-a-half-day program for young impressionable males and females from the ages of 10 to 18 years of age who live in the communities of Cumberland County and surrounding areas of North Carolina.  Quite often, youth feel they have limited resources, may lack coping skills, and are unaware of how to defer their anger positively.  Many at-risk youth have an absent father or mother role model in the home.  The goal of the mentoring camp is to take the youth outside of their daily home environment and provide them with positive role models, life skills, and tools to challenge and motivate them to become productive young leaders in society.

Our camp will be facilitated and led by positive male and female role models from the local community including college students, law enforcement, elected officials, pastors, members of the armed forces, and fraternities.  Each day, there will be planned activities that will teach the campers life and survivor skills, problem-solving, conflict resolution and social interactions centered on outdoor and physical activity.

At the end of the mentoring/enrichment camp, the campers will take back to their home, school and community a renewed sense of self-worth, a better-defined roadmap to their future, and local resources to sustain their growth and success.

Let's Make It Happen Together, Inc.  will continue its Youth Mentoring / Enrichment Camp as a quarterly event and partner with local churches, schools, community leaders, law enforcement, elective officials, veterans and volunteers.
